Make Music Day 2022 Wrapup!

July 26, 2022

We had so much fun being a part of Make Music Day this year! We wanted to share a few of the innovative things that the music community did with our little invention kit on June 21st!

Make Music Day: What is it?

Make Music is a free celebration of music around the world on June 21st. Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries.

Completely different from a typical music festival, Make Music is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician — young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion — pours onto streets, parks, plazas, and porches to share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers. All of it is free and open to the public.

Syracuse, NY : Crispy on the Mic!

In Syracuse, there is a folk-lore foodie item called Salt potatoes that is the "side dish of the region". One of the Make Music Day coordinators has a niche side project where he raps exclusively about potatoes. They call him crispyonthemic and he's known for being incredibly entertaining and charismatic. As part of the Make Music Day celebrations, he played fingerling potatoes and rapped over it- check it out!

Make Music Madison: Scott Fradkin

A local synth artist, Scott Fradkin used Makey Makeys as a midi controller to control several synths and a drum machine. He coded software to form a bridge between the Makey Makey, his computer, and the synths, and created some really unique different controllers. He offered drop in interactive sessions at the local library to youth and their families.

Make Music Day Sheboygan

Check out this Sheboygan-themed instrument of cheese and brats!

Located on the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan, Sheboygan is known for bratwurst, cheese, chairs (and beer) and feature an exceptionally strong manufacturing base.

We love that they made this epic Makey Makey piano for Make Music Day!

Kids and teens loved this piano too!
